Business

The Challenger Learning Center is a national non-profit organization with local chapters (52) and is based upon the NASA Challenger Space Shuttle that was lost on January 28, 1986.

Today, the national Challenger Learning Center program instructs hundreds of thousands elementary and middle school students annually, with local chapters averaging in excess of ten thousand students annually.

Simulated space missions are completed that include actual replicas of Houston - Johnson Space Center control and the Space Station currently in space. The missions require team work, math and science skills. Each mission requires four hours and success is measured by discovery of Comets and completion of certain experiments in the Space Station - coordinated by the Johnson Space Control center team.

Challenge

The Center required several aspects from their web strategy that included but were not limited to:

  • Unified presentation with the national organization
  • Orchestrate the missions in a more robust manner
  • Communicate to the public, schools and students more information about the center
  • Incorporate e-commerce
  • Reduce the center's operational cost of missions
  • Increase awareness and fundraising

Approach/Solution

We worked closely with the national Challenger Learning Center organization in Washington D.C. to establish the technological guidelines for duplicating the national web strategy.

Next, after completing customization and localization, we advanced all collaterals to the web and directed all parties to view schedules and complete bookings via the web. Finally, the ecommerce module will enable the center to sell on-line and raise funds via the web.

Results

This project was completed without compensation and we continue to support the Challenger Learning Center.
